Inclusivity is not a recent ‘fad’ at Cycle & Carriage (C&C) Bintang, but has been embedded for many years, as reflected by the achievements of various employees.
Within its workforce are three hearing-impaired employees who have been working at C&C Bintang for over 30 years each.
Two of them, Ahmad Hamzah and Ravi Chandran Balakrishnan of the Batu Caves outlet, are among Malaysia’s most experienced spray paint specialists. They have also inspired fellow employees to learn sign language to better communicate with them. Inclusivity extends to the opportunities C&C provides for continuous learning. Administrative Manager Quay Chew Hun, who is also hearing-impaired, was given the opportunity to attend and graduate from the Federation School of the Deaf in Penang, while Warehouse Assistant Leow Yuet Shang, who has been with C&C Bintang for 23 years and has autism, was selected to participate in the Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Programme.
“C&C Bintang does not view disabilities as a reason to exclude persons from the workforce. We believe in equal opportunity,” said Chief Executive Officer Wilfrid Foo.
Another example is C&C Bintang’s only female workshop technician, 25-year old Nur ‘Izzah ‘Atiqah Ahmad, who is breaking the conventions in a male-dominated industry. She believes that nothing is impossible for her if she works hard.
