The Jardine Foundation, an educational trust founded in 1982 by Jardine Matheson, has announced the launch of the Jardine-Fulbright Scholarship Scheme in partnership with Fulbright University Vietnam. The scholarship scheme will support Vietnamese postgraduate students pursuing a master’s degree at the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, with the aim of nurturing future leaders who are committed to contributing back to their communities.
The new programme underscores Jardines’ long-standing commitment to education as a cornerstone of its efforts to improving the livelihoods of its communities.
Beginning in the 2025–26 academic year, scholarships will be awarded annually to students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, commitment towards societal contribution in Vietnam, and financial need. Around 10 students will be awarded the scholarship annually.
Speaking about the scholarship, Jardine Matheson Executive Chairman Ben Keswick said, “The Jardine-Fulbright Scholarship reflects Jardines’ belief in the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities. I am delighted to launch this new partnership with Fulbright University Vietnam as we support talented Vietnamese students in their pursuit of higher education and leadership.
Jardine Matheson has built deep roots in Vietnam over the past three decades, spanning a diverse range of businesses and industries, we believe this new scholarship reflects our enduring commitment to the country’s development.”
Dr. Jonathan Pincus, Dean of the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, expressed his deep appreciation of the Jardine Foundation and their long track record of support for future leaders in Asia, “We are proud to collaborate with Jardine Matheson and the Jardine Foundation to launch the Jardine-Fulbright Scholarship. This initiative will open doors for our students whose personal circumstances may have otherwise limited their access to higher education. At Fulbright University Vietnam, we nurture future leaders and ambitious thinkers who will make a meaningful contribution to society. This scholarship embodies our shared mission to empower future generations.”
Successful applicants will be designated as Jardine-Fulbright Scholars and will receive financial support from the Foundation for their tuition fees. The continuation of the scholarship will be contingent on academic performance each semester.
In tandem with the scholarship launch, Jardine Matheson Vietnam will also introduce a new internship programme for Fulbright University undergraduates, further expanding the initiative’s impact by offering students valuable real-world experience and professional development opportunities within the Jardines Group in Vietnam.
Since its establishment in 1982, the Jardine Foundation has awarded over 500 scholarships to more than 460 scholars and invested over US$50 million, to support study at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford in the United Kingdom, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia and the University of Hong Kong.
This latest partnership with Fulbright University Vietnam reflects the Foundation’s continued dedication to empowering youth through education and fostering a new generation of leaders passionate about contributing towards their communities.
