“Through the various interactions I had with people in Jardines, I find then company fosters a positive learning environment where I am not only challenged, but also encouraged to consistently improve.”
“I am drawn to the diversity of the industries that Jardines is involved in and I was intrigued by the opportunity to learn first-hand across six functions. The continuous training throughout the JETS journey, and after graduation, demonstrates that Jardines is very committed to developing talent.”
These were some of the standout comments submitted by the 11 interns who recently completed the 2019 Jardine Internship Programme in Hong Kong.
The 2019 Internship was a ‘hot ticket’ programme, attracting close to 3,000 applications from students in Hong Kong and mainland China. The Class of 2019 interns embraced the chance to experience corporate life and contribute to major projects during their six-week summer stint. They also attended workshops on leadership, innovation and strategy to learn practical skills and insights to help them fine-tune their job hunt and career development journeys.
Meeting executives across all levels of the businesses was another focus through social events, business visits and networking sessions. Based on post-programme feedback, the 11 interns said they learned a great deal over the six weeks and would be keen to join the Jardine Executive Trainee Scheme (JETS) or seek job opportunities with Jardines.
The Jardine Internship Programme was launched in mainland China last year and expanded to include students from mainland China and Hong Kong this year. Speaking about the spike in applications – from 1,600 in 2018 to nearly 3,000 this year – Marcelo Paraizo, Head of Talent Programs and Technology said, “The surge in application numbers exceeded our expectations and indicates that awareness about Jardines remains high. This response also enhances our employer of choice reputation across many campuses in mainland China and Hong Kong. And like last year, we attracted high-quality interns in 2019. The JETS scheme looks stronger than ever.”
