Astra is Southeast Asia's largest independent automotive group. Operating predominantly in Indonesia, it is the leading provider of a full range of automobile and motorcycle products. In the motor vehicle market, the group partners with Toyota, Daihatsu, Isuzu, Peugeot and UD Trucks, as well as being the dealer for BMW, and in the motorcycle market, it partners with Honda. In the automotive component sector, through its subsidiary PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, Astra cooperates with quality component producers.
In addition, Astra has interests in financial services; heavy equipment, mining, construction & energy; agribusiness; infrastructure & logistics; information technology; and property. In financial services, Astra's businesses provide financial products and services to support its automotive sales through PT Astra Sedaya Finance, PT Toyota Astra Financial Services and PT Federal International Finance, and heavy equipment sales through PT Surya Artha Nusantara Finance and PT Komatsu Astra Finance. The group is one of Indonesia's largest general insurance brokers through PT Asuransi Astra Buana. Astra also entered life insurance business through PT Astra Life. The group entered mobile lending fintech business by launching a joint venture, PT Astra WeLab Digital Arta.
Astra's activities in the heavy equipment and mining sectors, as well as construction are conducted through PT United Tractors Tbk, which is the sole distributor for Komatsu heavy equipment, and is a leading coal mining contractor, a coal and gold mine owner and a construction contractor. PT United Tractors Tbk also entered into energy business and currently is in the construction process for its 2x1,000 MW power plant project. In agribusiness, Astra has a significant interest in palm oil plantation operator PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk.
Astra is also an active participant in the development of Indonesia's strategic infrastructure, including toll roads and sea ports, as well as transportation and logistics. The infrastructure business is managed by PT Astra Tol Nusantara and PT Astra Nusa Perdana. PT Serasi Autoraya manages the logistics value chain business.
Through PT Astra Graphia Tbk, it is one of the country's leading providers in document and IT solution services. The group entered property business in 2016 by launching an integrated complex comprising office buildings and residential apartments, Menara Astra and Anandamaya Residences, and is now developing two residential projects in Jakarta, namely Asya and Arumaya.
As of February 2021, Astra employed some 187,000 people in 238 companies, including subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates. It is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
