Health in Mind

The Health in Mind programme is a platform to promote a positive attitude towards mental illness among young people. With Jardine Ambassadors leading the efforts and acting as role models and mentors for the students, the programme aims to empower secondary students as advocates to promote mental health to fellow students, their families, and the public at large through interactive activities and experiential personal development training.

Health in Mind has achieved success thanks to the guidance from the mental healthcare professionals from The Hospital Authority, the clinical psychologist from MINDSET, and teachers from the participating schools.

Results Obtained

In 2009/10, the programme recruited more than 353 student advocates from 23 secondary schools in Hong Kong. Over 110 in-school activities, volunteer services, interactive workshops and seminars were organized throughout the year, benefiting over 27,000 students, parents, teachers and people suffering or recovering from mental illness.

City Orienteering

One of the major events of the Health in Mind programme is the annual City Orienteering. Guided by Jardine Ambassadors, student advocates join service users from NGOs to participate in this one-day activity aiming to promote social inclusion and de-stigmatization on mental illness. The activity provides the service users with an opportunity to reintegrate into the community by practising their long deprived skills of planning, time management, budget allocation and decision making, while enhancing the students’ understanding of the service users’ needs through the interaction in the activity and thereby reducing their stigma on mental illness.
