Events organized by Group Companies in Support of mental health
Group companies organized their own versions of the Mini MINDSET Day during 2009 with the participation of their staff and NGO partners. With the strong support from the staff across the Group, the heat is on for spreading mental health messages in the community.

Twelve staff members from Central Services of Jardine Matheson Ltd visited 'Our Hands Farm', an organic farm in Yuen Long in June 2009. Together with 12 members from the Hong Kong FamilyLink Mental Health Advocacy Association, participants had a taste of organic farming in the field and made handkerchiefs dyed from natural materials. The day was concluded with a delicious and healthy organic meal, followed by African drumming and sing-along of favourite pop and folk songs. Some even took home with them some fresh organic vegetables from the farm.

After months of preparation, volunteers from Dairy Farm set off to Fanling to spend a day in the scenic Lavender Garden in mid May. Fifteen service users from Caritas Hostel, Fanling joined 19 colleagues from different banners under the group to enjoy a barbecue, learn candle making and participate in games and a lucky draw in the Garden. While immersing themselves in the scent of lavender during the sizzling barbecue, participants had the opportunity to chat and interact with each other, embodying the spirit of reintegration.

The active participation by volunteers from Gammon in the Mini-Mindset Day in May 2009 demonstrated the company's commitment to the community. During the barbecue at The Whitehead Club, service users from Castle Peak Hospital shared their personal stories and experience in grappling with mental illness. The honest and open manner of the service users in approaching the subject has touched the hearts of many in the group and conveyed the message that one should face difficulties with courage. Support from family and friends also plays a vital part in helping one overcome challenges.

Jardine Ambassadors and ten staff members from Hongkong Land organized an outing to the Hong Kong Science Museum with service users from Fu Hong Society. The participants walked around the exhibits in groups, navigating through the maze of mirrors and absorbed themselves in the life of the animals. The service users also made an attempt to solve the challenging puzzles with the help and encouragement from the staff of Hongkong Land. They were filled with joy when the puzzles were solved. The event concluded amidst enjoyable conversations over lunch in a nearby hotel.

Also in May, Jardine Ambassadors of the Jardine Aviation Services Group (JASG) organized a 'scavenger hunt' for service users from the Kwai Chung Hospital and JASG staff at the Hong Kong International Airport. Teams comprising both JASG staff and service users were required to find out the answers of various questions in the two terminals within the shortest time. The problem solving process called for team work and effective communications between members. As the participants went through the tasks, they knew more about the airport and, more importantly, built up partnerships and friendships with one another. After a refreshing lunch buffet and an award presentation session, a guided tour was arranged where the participants were given access to the restricted area for a 'behind the scenes' look at the aircraft and their turnaround process.

In a day out at 'Our Hands Farm' in Yuen Long organized by JEC under the theme of 'Green Living', service users of Mental Health Association and their families, JEC Caring Team members and Jardine Ambassadors learnt how to live a 'green' life by enjoying the beauty of and living in harmony with the nature. Following an introduction and touring session at the farm, participants made cookies, dumplings and cups made of bamboo. The beats of African drums and the songs played and sung together served as a perfect ending for the trip.

Twenty staff members from Jardine Lloyd Thompson and Jardine Schindler and 20 service users of the Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services joined together at Causeway Bay Pizza Hut on 16th May 2009 for a common goal to roll some dough! Participants in groups first toured the kitchen and learned the table setting procedures of the restaurant, followed by a 'do-it-yourself' pizza-making session. Dough and ingredients were provided for making some of the most popular pizzas. Participants were able to have a taste of their freshly made pizzas afterwards. Everyone had a great time with lots of fun!

As an effort to promote social integration and understanding of mental illness, Jardine Ambassadors of JOS organized a visit to the Wellcome Fresh Food Centre followed by a lunch at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for nine service users from the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong and ten JOS staff. The participants not only learnt about the stringent standards of quality control at the Fresh Food Centre, but also enjoyed mixing with JOS staff in a casual environment.


In addition to a sumptuous buffet lunch, service users who participated in the Mini MINDSET Day Easter Egg Hunt and Treasure Trail were given chocolate Easter eggs to take home with them.
In the Mini MINDSET Day Easter Egg Hunt and Treasure Trail at Victoria Park, Jardine Ambassadors from Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group invited 12 ex-mentally ill individuals from Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service and nearly a hundred staff from The Excelsior, Hong Kong to accomplish various interesting and challenging tasks. The participants then enjoyed a sumptuous buffet lunch in the hotel and brought the chocolate Easter Eggs home. On another occasion, clients from Caritas Jockey Club Lai King Rehabilitation Centre were invited to join the JSA Sports Carnival 2009. Both events successfully promoted social integration for and acceptance of the ex-mentally ill among Jardine staff.

On 16th May 2009, 17 service users from New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and 16 staff from Pizza Hut Hong Kong joined the Mini MINDSET Fun Day in Pizza Hut at Discovery Park. After listening to the history and interesting stories of Pizza Hut and walking through the pizza making process, participants were divided into groups and given the opportunity to make their own pizzas. At the end of the workshop, they enjoyed their unique pizzas together as well as other delicious dishes.


Other than the great taste of barbeque food, participants expressed appreciation of one another's company.
A BBQ party was organized by Zung Fu Company Limited for members from Phoenix Clubhouse on 30th May 2009 in Tuen Mun. After some ice-breaking exercises, the participants began to help each other out during the group games. Laughter and chats filled the venue. The event was a great success and everyone enjoyed it immensely.

 

 

集團多間公司舉辦多項活動以支持精神健康
集團旗下多間公司在二○○九年各自籌辦形形色色的小型思健同樂日,得到公司員工和非政府機構夥伴的積極響應。在集團全體員工鼎力支持下,深入社區傳揚精神健康訊息的活動進行得如火如荼。

二○○九年六月,十二名怡和集團總辦事處員工參觀了元朗有機農場「一對手農舍」。他們與十二位來自香港家連家精神健康倡導協會的會員,親身體驗有機耕種的樂趣,更有機會嘗試以天然染料自製手帕。參加者在飽嚐一頓既美味又健康的有機午餐後,更一起合奏非洲鼓,並大展歌喉高唱流行曲及民歌,為當日的節目劃上圓滿句號。部份參加者更在農場購買了一些新鮮的有機蔬菜回家享用。

經過多月籌備,牛奶公司義工隊在五月中旬動身前往粉嶺,在風景如畫的香薰園度過了愉快的一天。十五位來自明愛粉嶺宿舍的服務使用者與十九位來自集團旗下不同分支的同僚在園內共享燒烤之樂、學習製作蠟燭,以及參加遊戲及幸運抽獎。在薰衣草香氣四溢的環境中,參加者一面燒烤,一面談天說地,充分體現了融合的精神。

金門的義工踴躍參與二○○九年五月舉行的小型思健同樂日,彰顯了公司致力服務社群的心志。在白石俱樂部進行燒烤活動期間,青山醫院的服務使用者分享了自己與精神病搏鬥的故事和經歷。他們談及這個話題時那種坦誠真摯的態度,令在場許多人士深受感動,亦帶出我們必須勇敢面對困難的訊息。當然,在克服挑戰的旅途上親友的支持亦必不可少。

怡和親善大使與十名置地公司員工,為扶康會的服務使用者安排參觀香港科學館。參加者分成小組,走遍館內各展覽廳,闖入鏡子世界,並嘗試感受動物的生活。在香港置地員工的協助和鼓勵下,服務使用者亦嘗試拆解智力難題。當成功完成智力遊戲後,他們都非常雀躍。參觀完畢後,眾人到附近的酒店午膳,大快朵頤之餘更談得興高采烈。


怡中航空的員工與葵涌醫院院友合力完成尋寶遊戲,盡顯群體合作精神。
同樣在五月份,怡中航空服務集團的怡和親善大使在香港國際機場為葵涌醫院的服務使用者和怡中員工舉辦了一場「定向尋寶」遊戲。由怡中航空的員工與服務使用者組成的多支隊伍必須用最短時間,在兩座客運大樓內找出多條問題的答案。整個過程講求團隊合作精神和隊員之間的默契。在遊戲過程中,參加者加深了對機場的認識,更重要的是彼此建立了友誼。一頓豐富的自助午餐和頒獎環節過後,參加者在導遊帶領下遊覽機場,更獲准進入限制區域,一睹飛機及其停靠流程背後的運作。

怡和機器以「綠色生活」為主題,在元朗「一對手農舍」舉辦了思健同樂日。香港心理衛生會的服務使用者及其家人、怡和機器愛心大使和怡和親善大使乘此機會感受大自然的美妙及體驗與大自然和諧共處的滋味,從中學習如何活出「綠色」生活。經過舍方介紹及參觀農場後,參加者有機會嘗試製作曲奇、餃子和竹杯。最後活動在精采的非洲鼓聲和悠揚的樂曲中圓滿結束。


怡和迅達、怡和保險顧問的同事以及浸會愛群社會服務處的服務使用者親自製作薄餅。
二○○九年五月十六日,二十名來自怡和保險顧問和怡和迅達的員工與浸會愛群社會服務處的二十位服務使用者齊集銅鑼灣必勝客。他們有一個共同目標—搓麵團!參加者分成小組,首先參觀廚房及學習餐廳的餐桌禮儀,然後親自下廚自製薄餅。麵團和材料早已預備好,可供他們製作多款大受歡迎的薄餅。最後,參加者更可品嘗自己親手炮製的新鮮出爐薄餅,難怪他們都樂在其中!


怡和科技的親善大使及同事與心理衛生會服務使用者穿著衛生袍參觀惠康新鮮食品中心。
為推動社會共融及加深各界對精神病的認識,來自怡和科技的怡和親善大使安排九位香港心理衛生會的服務使用者與十名怡和科技員工,一同參觀惠康新鮮食品中心,然後再到香港科技大學共進午餐。參加者不僅認識了新鮮食品中心嚴格的質量監控標準,亦十分享受與一眾怡和科技員工閒談。


除了享用豐富的自助午餐外,參加「復活節尋寶同樂日」的康復者亦獲贈朱古力復活蛋。
文華東方酒店集團的怡和親善大使在維多利亞公園舉行了小型思健同樂日—尋找復活蛋及尋寶活動。活動邀請了十二位浸會愛群社會服務處的精神病康復者和香港怡東酒店近百名員工參加,一同完成多項既有趣又富挑戰性的任務。其後參加者在酒店享用了一頓豐富的自助午餐,並將朱古力復活蛋帶回家。而在另一項活動中,明愛賽馬會荔景社會服務中心的服務使用者則獲邀參與怡和體育會運動嘉年華2009。這兩項活動均有助精神康復者重投社會,亦令怡和員工學會接納精神康復者。

二○○九年五月十六日,十七位來自新生精神康復會的服務使用者,連同十六位香港必勝客員工參加了在愉景新城必勝客分店舉辦的小型思健同樂日。參加者先了解必勝客的歷史趣聞及參觀薄餅的製作過程,然後分成多個小組,親自嘗試焗製薄餅,並在活動完結前品嚐這些獨一無二的自製薄餅以及其他美食。


大家在輕鬆的氣氛下享受燒烤之樂。
仁孚行有限公司於二○○九年五月三十日在屯門為卓越之友會員舉辦了燒烤同樂日。經過一輪「熱身」後,參加者開始在集體遊戲中發揮互助精神,他們的歡笑聲和對話充斥整個燒烤場地。是次活動非常成功,參加者無不樂在其中。
